The generic stock image of Thanksgiving dinner is not far off from my family's thanksgiving. Thanksgiving in my family is pretty simple and a lot smaller than Christmas. We all go over to my aunt's house ("all" meaning, my family, a couple aunts and uncles, my grandma, and some family friends, this year, a total of 15 people). We make a surplus of food each year but still eat most of it anyway, stuffing ourselves beyond belief.
This year, I met a family friend of ours who is English. He became known in my mind as "the most interesting man in the world." He had a bad childhood, ran away from home for six weeks and joined the fair as a carny, he played professional rugby, was a perfect shot in the military, and was a guard for the royal family (Prince Andrew). He talked the whole dinner about his stories and everyone was entertained.
Interesting things happen at all of my thanksgiving dinners, it wouldn't be a Reid family dinner without a strange event. One year, my cousin found out he was allergic to prawns, after 18 years of eating other seafood, and had to go to the hospital because his tongue swelled up so badly. Another year, my brother snowboarded down a hill in only a bathrobe for a bet. As you can tell, we have some pretty fun Thanksgivings.
