Assignment 12: Nathan Boshard
If there was one thing I wanted my college roommate to know about me it would be that I'm fairly opinionated. I don't choose my beliefs lightly, so if I believe something I'll stand by it until you've knocked down most or all of my arguments. Some people are willing to throw their hands up and say "well, that's just my opinion." I'm not one of those people. If I have a belief, I base it on reason and evidence, not emotion. It tends to aggravate people that I don't care about their emotions: something has either got to be true or false. This doesn't mean I see the world in black and white - I recognize that some things are harder to verify than others - but I try to resign myself to the "I don't know" position infrequently. Sometimes my hardheadedness can be petty, but if I'm being petty I probably won't know it. I maintain that others are better judges of my personality than I am (this is one of those few "I don't know" cases). Unless someone makes a hateful criticism, I'll take it as constructive criticism. This is what I would want my roommate to know about me: I'm opinionated, but I'm not unwilling to change or listen.
