Assignment 12 – Dilni Abeyrathne

Future roommate – before we room together, there are a few things you should know about me.

First, I am an introvert, and yes, that means very introverted. I do not like to talk excessively and I am absolutely terrible at making small talk. There are quite a couple reasons for such inclinations, one being that I get physically exhausted from talking for long periods of time. I’m not sure of the exact reason why, though it could be from not talking much my whole life. I will not get into the fine points of said exhaustion, but long story short: I get winded. That does not mean I will give you the silent treatment, however. Not at all!

In addition, being an introvert means I need some time to myself often – to reflect, think, and simply sit quietly. I don’t do too well with large groups of people nor with prolonged talk. If an event as described were to happen, you can be sure that I will slip away to some quiet corner to ponder or simply sit.

But, that doesn’t mean I don’t talk. Quite the opposite!

Though there are very few instances where I talk for an extended period of time, there are some things that manage to pique my interest enough to warrant a rant. Be warned! This is the second thing to know: I love history and I will, and I mean will, give you long lectures about the civilizations of old. History intrigues me very much, especially ancient history. So, if you were to ask me a question about such civilizations or mention any aspect of history, you can be sure that I will lecture excessively about it.

Ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient Rome – you name it, I will lecture you about it. I know that does not sound particularly fun, but you have been warned. I know for a fact that my family is certainly less than pleased with my lectures. If I even look like I’m going to begin a history rant, my family will readily and enthusiastically let me know their opinion by drawn-out groans and exclamations. Lovely. And that is when my “No talk” nature flies out the window. Goodbye silence, hello history!

Nevertheless, no matter the circumstances, I will strive to get to know you better. Quiet or lecturing, know that I won’t leave you in the dark.

I’m not that cold, honestly.
