Several things manage to peak my “Geek Meter”, some infinity
more than others. There are two that manage to capture my interest the most:
reading and writing. As these two often go together, they are equal in interest
for me.
First: books. Books to me are like portals to other
dimensions, places where I can escape to when I’m having a rough time. I
absolutely adore books of all kinds, though fantasy and fiction have my
permanent bias. Ever since I was a little girl, I have enjoyed reading. I remember
going to the library several times when I was younger and toting stacks upward
of twenty books home to read. Even now, my passion has not died out. I keep two
bookshelves at home filled to the brim with exciting books, and I’m still
adding more to my collection. Whenever a new book comes out from one of my
favorite authors, you can be sure that I will attempt to get my hands on it at
the first moment possible. It sounds like a deadly addiction, and I can see
why, but I truly cannot keep away from books. They are my ticket to an exciting
world beyond our world.
Next: writing. As much as books, writing makes me geek out
quite a bit. Ever since my early childhood, I have been writing, whether it be
stories or little paragraphs. I remember fondly the times when my grandmother
told me that I would always leave a few sentences of a story for her to read
before going to school. Although I do not get much time to write now, I still
write as much as I can: poetry, stories, and books.
Books and writing will forever have a place in my heart.
