For my family, Thanksgiving typically looks like
family coming in from out of town, exchanging Christmas and birthday gifts with
relatives we won’t get to see for a while, putting up Christmas decorations,
and of course, lots and lots of food. I enjoy the holiday, however, as someone
who loves food, I see Thanksgiving as a bit ridiculous. Seeing family is great,
but the idea of preparing exorbitant amounts of food always seemed preposterous
to me, especially considering I hardly enjoy eating all of it. I have never
been a fan of turkey, cranberry sauce is reminiscent of bitter, inconsistent jello,
stuffing is good but after a second or third helping it loses its appeal.
Cooking so much of these foods leaves days of leftovers, and it gets boring
fast. As they say, variety is the spice of life, and the lack of variety in the
days preceding Thanksgiving makes for a very bland selection of eats.
