Music is what geeks me, plain and simple. I find it fascinating how musicians put notes and ideas and feelings into sonic form, which is so hard to do well. I get lost in stuff sometimes, and it doesn't really matter whether its the intricate time signature shifts in Master of Puppets or the beat behind Rockstar, I appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into doing something like that. After all as Sean most aptly said in his Assignment 11, I play/record music too.
One of the hardest things to do is mix a recording, which involves hours and hours of sitting at a computer working with effects and software. I can lose myself in that, the try and repeat to get a good take for an overdub or the insertion of a effect to get a unique sound or a different perspective on where to take the mix next. I've been known to spend whole days doing this kind of thing, only emerging for meals and bathroom breaks, which can be problematic with a busy schedule.
