We may not have interacted much in past years, but this year
I see Dilni everywhere (in English, in Orchestra, and BYSC after school). It’s
been a lot of fun learning more about her. Dilni comes off as quiet – not
because she doesn’t have anything to say, but because she’s polite and
introspective. I was shocked to learn Dilni loves to watch documentaries in her
spare time. To me, that’s just as rare as someone who actually enjoys running.
People may say they do, but they really don’t. It’s preposterous, impossible!
But I have a feeling Dilni really does like documentaries. History, astronomy,
science, you name it, Dilni would have a fun fact about it. When we review
vocab together she always comes up with creative ways to remember the words
(“Doesn’t ____ sound like ____?”). Nathan, on my other side, I don’t talk with
as much, but we sat together in English and US Government freshman year because
of our last names. I know he’s really smart and always seems to know obscure
psychology and debate terms. He’s easygoing, but took fighting classes at least
freshman year, so he could probably beat someone up if they did make him angry.
Finally, he can zip a plastic bottle cap across the room with amazing accuracy.
It’s actually pretty impressive.
