Assignment 13: Joseph Craven

On December 14th, a vote will be passed to decide the fate of net neutrality. For those who don't know, net neutrality is a concept on the internet that gives equal network speed and availability towards each website within service providers. Without it, companies could charge extra for certain websites and services, drastically decrease connection speeds, and even block websites that the company doesn't favor. Many people are calling this an "attack on free speech" and "purely anti-consumer."

However, these people are forgetting one thing.

According to some professional-sounding website, the FCC hires over a thousand employees, with an average salary of over $130,000 (totaling $200 million). This might seem like a lot of money, and you could be right, but they could be making even more. With the removal of net neutrality, the FCC employees would be able to buy the new iPhone X or a really sweet car. Now you feel awfully selfish, don't you? This doesn't even mention employees of internet service providers, who would also make fat stacks of money. Surely the internet quality of the entire US population is a small price to pay to help quite a few people. So next time you have to pay extra money for Netflix or you can't get on to Snapchat, just think of how you're helping some guy in California.
