This isn’t necessarily advice that I was given, but these
are words from a friend that I really took to heart. I was walking down the
hall after school. I saw my friend acting
super goofy, and, I don’t know how I came to utter these words, but I said,
”Dude, what the heck, you’re a senior and you’re acting like a freshman.” That’s
when my friend turned to me and said (I’m not sure if this is the exact
phrasing).”I may be growing older, but that doesn’t mean I have to grow up.” I
probably laughed and rolled my eyes at the time, but later I got to thinking, ’What
does growing up mean and is it even a requirement?’ My mom, who adore dearly,
is… a grown up, and I still find her at times behaving like a kid. The
conclusion I came to is, as I grow older, I need to be able to decide how I
grow up, and I need to be able to keep a part of my inner child within me. It’s
what keeps us young at heart, even when we’re physically old.
