In response to this film's nomination for Best Picture as well as constant inclusion of this film on multiple Best Films of the Year lists, I decided to check out Get Out this past weekend. What I found was a refreshingly unique horror film that ,while slightly predictable, offered a compelling plot with great performances.

The Pros: Daniel Kaluuya as well as the supporting cast all give phenomenal performances (with the exception of the Jeremy character, who seemed merely passable in most of the scenes he was in). This film also has one of the best build-ups out of any horror movie I've seen; roughly 75% of this film is dedicated setting up the horror-based segment, with every plot point adding up and coming together over time. This film also sets up a looming atmosphere that only gets creepier over the film's runtime.

The cons: As stated earlier, the film plot is fairly predictable despite it's originality. There were a few minor twists that left me surprised, but for most of the movie I knew where the plot was going. However, my largest problem with the movie was that it I didn't feel it was greatly effective as a horror movie, it was more of a suspense-thriller.

Final thoughts: Overall, this movie was a memorable horror movie experience that I will not be forgetting soon. This was one of my favorite movies of the previous year and I will keep this movie in mind when the Oscars approach.
