Assignment 17: Caili Harris

The two movies I will be comparing and contrasting today are Moana and Thor Ragnorak, both directed by Taika Waititi. To state the obvious, Moana is a Disney princess movie and Thor Ragnorak is a Marvel superhero film. Thor Ragnorak features the story of a male hero and Moana is the story of a female heroine. However, that said both depict a hero’s journey in which a family member dies spurring them to go on a big adventure in which they pick up a costar who doesn’t initially wish to come but is overall won over by the charm and charisma of the main character (so pretty much your typical Disney film). Both main characters are descendants of royalty and are teamed up with a trickster.  Finally, in the end of both films, the main characters lead their people to a new home, due to the destruction of their old one.
