Assignment 17 - Delaney

I did not take the time to go to the theaters and see a new movie. However, I did rewatch older movies that I’ve enjoyed. I decided to watch and analyze two films directed by Tim Burton. These two films are Sweeney Todd and Edward Scissorhands.

Both of these films feature Johnny Depp as the male lead character - Sweeney in Sweeney Todd and Edward in Edward Scissorhands. I find that this highlights Johnny Depp’s acting.

Both Sweeney Todd and Edward Scissorhands are flawed characters. Sweeney, of course, is a murderer and Edward eventually is too. The main difference between them, that I have found, is that Edward tried to be better through living with the family and falling in love. On the other side of things, Sweeney Todd kills more and more people as the movie progresses, even accidentally killing his wife.

One thing I really liked about Sweeney Todd is the fact that it’s is a musical. While Edward Scissorhands is not a musical film, the soundtrack is wonderful.

All in all, I really enjoyed both of Tim Burton’s films, Sweeney Todd and Edward Scissorhands.
