Junior
year has been one heck of a ride.
First things first: freshman year I
decided not to get involved in a bunch extracurriculars so I’d have time to do
my homework. My life was so boring – not only was I uninvolved in Henry Clay
activities but the homework load freshman year was way less daunting than
expecting. My schoolwork-before-play policy didn’t last long.
This year, with five AP classes, my
workload was much larger than it has ever been before. However, I also became
much more involved in my church community and strengthened my religious
beliefs. In addition to my fourteen or so choirs through my church, this is my
sixth year in Lexington Singers Children’s Chamber Choir. I also participated
in all of the Henry Clay theater department’s productions this year (compared
to just the musical during sophomore year). I had a blast doing the lighting
for “Witness for the Prosecution” and the “Underpants” and also performing in “Singin’
in the Rain.”
My extracurricular commitments and my
increased homework load taught me to balance my time but also taught me the
value of a good nights sleep and I had countless fourteen plus hour days at
school throughout the year.
As much as I need a relaxing summer
break to cool down from the school year, I’ve been accepted into the Lexington
Deauville Sister Cities’ Program and I will be staying in Normandy, France for
three weeks this summer. I’ve been learning French for five years and I’m
excited to put this skill to good use.
It’s been crazy busy and stressful but
my thought is this: you only go through high school once and there’s plenty of
time later on to relax – it’s okay to be busy now in order to make memories
that will last a lifetime.
