Playlist for when you've got the feels. All these songs have lots of emotion, and most are great to sing loudly (and poorly) in your car.
Tool - Wings for Marie and !0,000 Days
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pltgaBtcPHg This two part song is quite long, but the length allows for a perfect build up of emotion and energy. The song is about the lead singer's mother, who was paralyzed for roughly 10,000 days before dying. This song was picked for the emotion and energy, especially at the end.
Sublime - Santeria
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0EXzv3CfKE While the meaning of the song is debated, I interpret it as Sancho being his addiction to drugs, and heina being him/his conscious. The singer struggles with leaving drugs behind so that he could focus on his son. The emotion in his voice is unmistakable, and the rest of the instruments perfectly complement the lyrics.
Foo Fighters - Everlong
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBG7P-K-r1Y&t=0s&index=5&list=PLCplsIX7dyc-q8aEKJNQp62mzoNR4uyRl This song, by the legendary Dave Grohl, was written shortly after a divorce with his wife, when his life reached an all time low. You can feel the pain and sorrow in his voice and lyrics. Many of the lyrics resonate with me and others, and this song is great to play loud enough that it hurts your ears. Hearing them play this song live was one of my best recent memories.
Pearl Jam - Black
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjdw1KLJP_8&index=12&list=PLCplsIX7dyc-q8aEKJNQp62mzoNR4uyRl This song is about true love, and how it nearly always ends in tragedy, and the unbearable pain that comes with it. One line in particular, "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky," Is probably one of the best love lyrics I've heard.
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKsxPW6i3pM The last song on the playlist is more hopeful than the rest. The reassurance that is sung about ends the playlist so that at the end of it all, you're feeling a little bit more inspired. The song itself is about ignoring others. and being yourself.
