We've all been there. It's 11 PM and we find ourselves driving home from an event. You're relaxed and having a soothing night drive but there's only one thing missing: music. You need a good playlist to add to the calming environment and to provide a chill feeling, and this playlist was created to remedy that.
1: Passionfruit by Drake
This is, at the moment, my favorite night driving song. The beat is melodic, slow, and soothing and really provides an atmoshpere not entirely present by other tracks on the playlist. In addition to that, Drake's singing on this track flows calmly and nearly perfectly with the beat.
2: Location by Playboi Carti
Carti's rapping in the track isn't the reason it makes the playlist; it's almost entirely due to the production. The beat accompanying this song is smooth and calm yet it provides a special kind of energy with some excellent electric guitar segments imbued inside the beat. Overall, it provides a nice, otherworldly vibe to your drive through the darkness to go wherever you feel like going.
3: All The Stars by Kendrick Lamar & SZA
Far more energetic, you could easily think this track doesn't belong on a relaxing night driving playlist. However, on the contrary, SZA and Kendrick's singing on this track works really well with a smooth beat, giving this song a really atmospheric feeling to it. In fact, this song off the Black Panther soundtrack might even inspire you to look up at the sky when stopped at a red light.
4: Redbone by Childish Gambino
Donald Glover is an undoubtedly versatile artist, being an actor, musician, comedian, director, and more. Even within his own music, he can make both slow moody tracks and fast-paced rap work on the same album. Redbone definitely falls into the former category, providing a slow and moody feeling to it, with a smooth, echoing Childish Gambino voice fitting into a beat that samples jazz from the 70s.
5: Psycho by Post Malone
Ol' Posty has the same kind of versatility in his music and Childish Gambino, and once his single Psycho dropped in early 2018, it instantly shot up near the top of the charts due to a slow, moody beat that matched up with smooth, restrained singing by Post Malone. Bonus points if its raining when this plays.
