When I was 6 my kindergarten teacher deemed me "illiterate" and recommended I get held back a year. When my mother got the call she cried thinking she already "failed me". My dad (who was working in Florida at the time) told her that I was brilliant and obviously something wasn't working in class.
My nights quickly became filled with words. Soon enough my parents realized the problem wasn't my comprehension, I could read perfectly well. It was pronunciation and overcoming the shy stutter I developed when reading out loud eerily close to my kindergarten teacher reading her lines like "The boy likes the dog."
I overcame this with diligent work and a strict rules about reading at night. I wasn't held back instead I have been lauded and awarded for my comprehension of literature and their meaning.
I am a reader by nature. I'm introverted, anxious, and quick to give you my two cents on any cultural or social issue.
I think this shows how I react to challenge and how I don't much care for having people who don't believe in me around me and if they must be near then I will prove them wrong. And I will excel in whatever the task or skill that originally tripped me up.
