Assignment 23- Kristin

I chose to create a playlist for writing stories. I haven’t tried listening to it while writing yet, but I’m hoping that it will calm me to help me focus, act as inspiration for whatever story I’m writing, and encourage me to keep writing. It is an odd mix of pop songs, songs from musicals, and classical music.

1. Mozart Piano Sonata No. 16 (movement 1)
This piece is simple, peaceful piano music. I’ve played the piece before, so listening to the familiar melodies will help me focus.

2. Unlikely Lovers from Falsettos
This song is very sweet and emotional. The calming harmonies will clear my mind, and the story of the song may inspire a scene to write.

3. Tiny Dancer by Elton John
This song is familiar and comfortable (my dad plays it a lot) and will put me in a good mood (bad moods mean writer’s block).

4. I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables
This song is emotional and beautiful, and the words are versatile so that they can apply to many different stories and situations, which is good for story inspiration.

5. #deep by Bo Burnham
Bo Burnham’s tone I’m his music is both honest and sarcastic, both meaningful and mocking, and I want to exude a similar tone in my writing (plus this song is hilarious).

6. Seize the Day from Newsies
This song (as the title suggests) is very much an encouraging and never-give-up song, which is helpful because I’ve been writing for a little while now and need the encouragement.

7. Pas De Deux from the Nutcracker
This is my favorite piece from the Nutcracker (a ballet that I’ve seen every year since I was little and is familiar and happy) and I can often imagine story scenes happening to this piece.

8. One and Only by Adele
This song is one of my favorite Adele songs, which are always well-written and tell stories on their own. The song could be a good basis for a character’s emotions.

9. Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8 (movement 2)
This piece is intense and energizing (one of my favorite classical pieces), and it will use me to get through my last few minutes of writing.

10. I Heard Your Voice in a Dream
This is one of my favorite songs, from my favorite TV show, sung by my favorite artist, and it will definitely put me in a good mood as I finish writing (plus the story in the song could be good inspiration for my story).
