My name is Taetum Crawford and I am 16 years old; turning 17 this December. I've lived in Lexington my whole life, though not entirely by choice. I am involved in my church and have gone on various mission trips to Alabama and D.C. I have played (and lettered) on the Henry Clay softball team since seventh grade; play right field and short; then moved to center with a bit of time at third last season. I have shot for team one of the archery team since my freshman year, shooting a high score of 292 and placing 22nd for females at state last year. This year, as a junior I am serving on leadership team for archery and am one of the two team captains for the softball team.

Me trying (and spectacularly failing)
to dive into second |
This year at Clay I am just merely hoping to pass all of my classes with a good grade, get college credit, and achieve a 32 on my ACT so that I have a shot at a full ride to Western Kentucky University where I plan to major in Biochemical engineering or a similar degree. From there I hope to join the FBI as a field agent; moving towards a forensic science job as I get older and unable to meet the physical requirements of the field position.

Me doing a proper softball slide |
Over the summer I spent most of my time away from home. I went from church camp, to western Kentucky for an archery camp, to a D.C. mission trip, and finally back to western Kentucky on and off for about a month and a half. I have so many fond memories from this summer of getting to go backstage at camp to see the behind the scenes of worship to an impromptu street performance of bohemian rhapsody on the streets of D.C. with my youth group (we got a standing ovation from two women on a balcony). I honestly can't choose a most memorable. I mean how can you choose when the entire summer was memorable? I saw my youth group grow stronger and closer, welcoming people from all different backgrounds, giving us all a place we can always call home. I got to see the streets of our capital up close and personal and have conversations with real people who were amazed at this little rag tag group of teens who had such a heart for service that we raised money and paid money to go and pick trash of the sidewalks of their community. i even got to spend an amazing month and a half with my family and close friend in western Kentucky, spending every Tuesday working at a food bank.
As you my have gathered by this point, I spend a lot of time just trying to help out. I do, however enjoy other things too. I mentioned before that I play softball. I truly Love the game and could sit there and talk about it for days. there's actually a recording on the Herald leader website where they did an interview with me and i spent half the time being so geeked out about the science and strategies behind base running that i could barely form words. I'm not gonna leave a link cause i'm pretty sure i already make a big enough fool of myself live. I also like to play guitar and write lyrics in an attempt to convey thoughts in my spare time. im also great if you want to have a five hour conversation about anything Harry Potter cause I'm a total dork :).
