As many other academy kids have stated, I sadly have very little time/energy to read for pleasure these days. Although I truly love reading, I have fallen quite bitter cycle of wanting to read more, buying a new book, and the losing interest/not having time to finish. I usually make it to about page 30. Here of some of the most recent books I have attempted (and a few succeeded) to read.
"The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway. I started this book over the summer, and I thought it was amazing (at least the beginning). You can tell by simply reading the first page of this classic why Hemingway has received so much admiration. This book has complex, quirky characters, an interesting plot, and a picturesque scenery. This book is probably my favorite critically acclaimed novel I have ever read, and writing this blog post has inspired me to compete it.
Another book I've read recently is "Kids of Appetite" by David Arnold, a local Lexington author. I fell in love with Arnold's first novel, "Mosquitoland," and sprinted to the bookstore when I heard he had written this second book. I found this book much less interesting and less compelling of a storyline, and therefore was not as engaged in it as I was the first.
A final book I've read recently is "Perks of Being a Wallflower." I had very high expectations for this book and it definitely didn't disappoint. The quirky friend group reflects upon a high school experience that is very different from my own, but also relatable at the sam time. The emphasis of mental illness and seeking assylum through friendships and love, pulled my heartstrings and earned this book an A+ from me.
