A list of books I've read in the past twelve months is a hard request. Not because I've read a lot, or not read any, but because I have a terrible concept of time and cant remember if I read a book yesterday or three years ago. As for the books i found by my bed and therefore must have been reading at some point in the past year or so is; Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Hollow City ( second book of Peculiar children' the movie was terribly inaccurate), Original Intent by David Barton, Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales (probably my favorite nighttime read), Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them screenplay, God will Carry You through by Max Lucado (Birthday present from my best friend), In Defense of Freedom- Stories of Courage and of Sacrifice of World War 2 Army Air Forces Flyers (there's a book mark so i must not be done with it, it a good read so far though) by Wolfgang W.E. Samuel, The Trials of Apollo, and other assorted Rowling and Riordan books.
I was reading the third and final book in the Peculiar Children series but like with many books, I got distracted and forgot to come back to it. from what i remember of it, the series was a fun read. it wasn't a particularly challenging read, which is why i likely got distracted. towards the end of the series the plot line got more and more stretched and honestly became not quite believable. (yes i know, unbelievable fiction, big surprise)
Original Intent was on the other end of the spectrum. It is an incredible book, but every page is just so saturated with thought triggering Court Cases that i could only read it in short stints before my brain would overload. The book is essentially a collection of Supreme court case addressing the First Amendment, with some commentary from David Burton. i mostly skipped over a lot of Burton's commentary because he tries so hard to paint everything in a conservative bias, and I want to make my own decision on how "absurd" i think a case ruling may be.
As I look through these books and see which ones have the worn pages and book marks hinting at unfinished business I notice a pattern. Almost all of the fictional books about a world that is all its own, are finished and well worn, showing signs of having been read many times. my other books of facts and history and this world are all unfinished, popcorn read (i just skipped around through the book, didn't read it in a straight shot), or just merely skimmed. it kind of shows me how, despite being interested in being aware of the world i live in and its history; i would rather read about a world that i can never be apart of. I can only guess as to why.
thinking back through the years i have to admit that this pattern holds true. But even beyond that, outside of a select few books and series, i have very little book loyalty. i constantly get distracted while reading a book and find myself skipping through various books across different genres and series. Even when i was younger i would read different books within the same series at the same time because i would get stuck in a world but get bored with one time frame, or id mix worlds by reading two books of similar series at the same time, trying to draw parallels between them.
So i don't really know what that says about me as a reader or a person other than I'm as squirrel brained in reading as i am in writing and life in general.
