Assignment 5: Joseph Craven

TV shows are one of my personal favorite forms of entertainment. The separation of shows into episodes give TV shows more options than movies when it comes to presenting plots and subplots to the audience. I also enjoy shows because the length of shows compared to movies allows the viewer to become more invested in the characters and the show overall. However, I'm not saying that shows are objectively better than movies. Movies are typically more concentrated and focused with their plots, while many shows have a tendency to have segments that are simply made to fill time.

Simply put, I watch TV for the entertainment it provides. Thanks to popular streaming services such as Netflix, it is easier than ever to find quality shows and watch them at your own pace. After all, there are few things more annoying than having to wait a week for another episode of a show that you are invested in.

There are a few shows that have stood out to me recently. Game of Thrones is an amazing fantasy show with compelling characters and some of the best battle scenes available on television, and I am disappointed that I will have to wait over a year for it to continue. I finished watching Breaking Bad, which was nearly perfect from start to finish, a year ago, and I'm very excited to watch it all again this year in film class. Ozark is a great Netflix original which surprisingly few people know about despite the overall quality of the show. Speaking of Netflix originals, Stranger Things is a very suspenseful supernatural mystery set in the 80s, which has a new season in about two weeks. On the comedy side, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the funniest and most sharply-written comedies ever made. There aren't any shows I particularly hate, although I think The Big Bang Theory is overrated and not as funny as many people say, and the endless of flow of obviously staged reality shows are quite annoying. Overall, however, TV is a very entertaining way to spend time, and there are plenty of quality shows out there to watch.
