I want to make movies.
I hope to learn and refine my skills as a filmmaker while I'm in college. I'd like to study alongside other people who are passionate about film. I'm very interested in meeting lots of new and diverse people. Finding people who share a common career goal. Building connections in the industry.
That's why my dream school is Boston University. It is located in an incredibly diverse city –the ideal setting for my college experience. That city is also a bustling hub for communications and media related work. As someone who has lived her whole life in the same house in the same town, I yearn for exciting big city life filled with new people and experiences. I long to dig into my work with professionals, to grow in my knowledge and skills, and to create with people who also long to spend their lives creating.
Boston offers a range of courses under the umbrella of the film major that I get revved up at the thought of taking "Understanding Film," "Asian Cinema," "Writing the Television Pilot," or "Introduction to Cinematography." Studying all the details of the grand scheme that is filmmaking will allow me to find a niche. No doubt I'll enjoy it all because when I make a film right now I do the work of a crew of ten, twenty, thirty, or more people; but, after my time in school, I'll have something to zero in my focus on and pursue fully as a career.
At the end of the day, that's the goal: my career. College is a step on the ladder towards what I want to do for the rest of my life.
