My parents are “old-fashioned.”
When it comes to mental health, they get quiet and don’t like to discuss it.
This is because they believe it is all in your head and something you can
easily get over. I am very against this belief. Many of my close friends and my
peers deal with mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, bi-polar
disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and many other problems and I cannot
just stand idly by like my parents and tell myself it’s all in their head or my
own head. I have helped many people through mental breakdowns and anxiety
attacks and this has made it impossible for me to deny the severity of these
illnesses. The fact that my parents deny the severity causes me to not talk to
them about these things because I don’t trust that they will take me seriously
on the matter. I will challenge them on this belief when the time comes.
