Blog Post Seven- Erica Currier
I want to become a literature major. I have always loved talking about how books impact our society and I love learning. College seems like the perfect place to rediscover that love I had in elementary school when I would come straight home and do my homework and brag about how much I knew to my parents. Books have always held a power over me ever since my kindergarten teacher thought I would have to be held back because I was always in my own little world. My mother made it her personal mission to make me the smartest in the class. She did this by making trips to the library fun, by ensuring I was read to or that I read every night before bed no matter how busy she was. In college- where I don't have to take math and science classes that have never interested me- I can instead take classes about American literature and how it changed the world, because it sure did change me. Fewer and fewer people are reading, which gives me an edge to many other students who are just becoming lit majors to boost their chance of passing the LSAT (which a lit degree does and that’s what I'm most likely doing it for) but reading defines the passion in me to learn and I think colleges will like that.
