Blog Post- Five Erica

Unpopular opinion: I hate TV. Can't stand it. I watch Criminal Minds to have something to talk to with my grandmother but only after its on Netflix and there are no awkward Viagra commercials to sit through with my grandmother and I not making eye contact.  My mother was a big fan of "outside" when I was younger. The "outside" was a magical place where I was queen and my little sister was the servant girl who got us water. This made it so that we were outside most of the day. The big split came when my family got cable when I was in 4th grade, now my parents were glued to the television and I was busy being in my own little world, doing homework, practicing my clarinet or reading. All of these are very solitary activities done in silence. This disjointed myself and TV because I was not a fan of waiting for plot, on a TV show at the end of a clip you had to sit through commercials while in a book you just had to flip a page. My mother when I told her of this prompt she looked up from the TV said "TV is for dummies". In my mind the Emmy's are important they reward amazing performances, but TV, in general spoon feeds its audiences and is not often very smart or impressive (at least to me) and I always believe there is a book or movie that did it better quicker.
This is why I think it's gross that our society doesn’t care about the Nobel Prize, because these people have changed the world while TV has only served to quietly teach its audiences the same trite lessons over and over.
